Many (but not all) of our members are gay men, and as an open club, we welcome all who are supportive! Batgirl brought up an interesting point in her post -- one of those things that's kinda "known" but not "discussed" Paul Morphy was gay. Morality is a fixed thing and must remain as absolute as the law of gravity.

If you like, you can have the last word. Chess is at one point which brings an adult and a child in close contact. This club is a safe space for members of our community around the world, so harassment and hateful comments of any kind will not be tolerated.

Are there any well-known openly gay/bisexual chess players? Sounds basically asking like who in the chess profession have a common trait that certain people in a minority group do. What difference does it make if someone who has some sort of deviant behavior behind his intelligent self plays good chess?

To DrSpudnik : I am a conservative and I think homosexuality is an abomination because it disregards that family man, woman, children are the core of society, therefore if someone wants special rights to emulate that which is unnatural, the desemination of society will eventually follow through if the majority remain silent.

The problem begins when my morality is put into question, or my opinion is regarded as "bigotry", "hate", etc. I think that's kind of obvious By "desemination" I guess you're trying to say decimation. You heard me. If they want to exercise their right to have unnatural sex, be it.

When we begin to question the wisdom of it, we will sooner or later fall headlong into the abyss of "new laws" that will last until we hit the bottom and break every bone we have. That's special. Not in the ravenous, flaming gay style like Oscar Wilde, but more in the middle-class proper "Victorian" way.

Society itself is an organic thing In fact it's easy to see this in other cultures, both the ones that exist chess and in history, which don't share the same laws, beliefs, and traditions. I think we are discussing an important point possibly a very very important point that has to be taken up to the highest level.

I don't think we should take this thing any further. I do not know about the US. In gay I came across a story where a chess teaher may not be rated was arrested. In england all who come in close contact with the children professinally has to undergo police vetting.
